Cannabinidiol (CBD) and other cannabinoids are naturally oil soluble, not water soluble, so to boost absorption into the body and allow for even mixing they are best diluted and consumed in an oil solution.
Not all oils are equal though. At KLORIS we use MCT oil as the carrier oil for our CBD oil drops as we consider it the most beneficial of the oils, and it blends wonderfully with CBD to give an even dilution - meaning you get a more regular concentration of CBD in each drop.
MCT is short for Medium Chain Triglycerides - a type of fat found in some plants and dairy produce. At KLORIS we utilise fair trade, ethically sourced and low carbon footprint coconuts to fractionate into MCT.
There are many claimed potential health benefits of MCT oil supplementation on its own, because the human body absorbs and breaks down MCT almost immediately, processing it into ketones which can be utilised by the brain for energy rather than glucose or sugar.
The human liver treats MCT oils similarly to carbohydrates and metabolises them straight into energy. It does this without causing free-radicals, as it is still processed as a fat.
Energy from MCT is immediately placed to work and therefore less likely to be stored in the body as fat. Scientists think this can have a beneficial effect on the body’s metabolic system and could help with weight loss.
A 2003 study found that consuming MCT’s increased the calories and fat that overweight men burned. It concluded that MCT’s might be helpful in the prevention of obesity and to stimulate weight loss.
A 2014 study found that MCT’s led to a greater increase in the hormones that reduce appetite and make a person feel full. This was in comparison with longer-chain fats.
The studies imply that MCT’s can play a significant role in weight loss and weight management. MCT has also been highlighted as helping to boost energy and endurance with some athletes, enabling training with much higher intensity.
