Our skin, particularly the skin on our faces, has a lot to contend with. Pollution, UV rays, the process of ageing and free-radicals, not to mention the impact of factors such as sleep, diet and stress – all of which can lead to an endocannabinoid deficiency.
There are many ways to care for your skin and the majority of the most vital steps we can take work with how your body is doing on the inside, not the outside. But there are certain beauty staples which really do make an enormous difference to the health and therefore appearance of your skin, our favourite being CBD face oil.
Why is face oil a skincare must have?
With so many products to choose from, it can be tough to decide which make the cut in your daily routine. You could go all out and buy the lot – serums, face oils, moisturisers, eye creams, toning mists but while they do all have their place and their own unique benefits, both time and financial constraints may lead you to wonder which ones are really essential.
Unlike all those products (and then some) a good quality face oil with carefully selected ingredients not only has potential to nourish and moisturise your skin, but protect it too. Something we all need to combat the extrinsic factors which negatively slam our skin on a daily basis.
Face oil provides a seal, meaning that any products you put underneath can stay put and do their job(s), while unwelcome pollutants and irritants from the outside world are prevented from entering into your pores and body.
One of the things we love most about face oil is that it’s suited to all skin types. Yes, even oily skin. Face oils can help even out overproduction of your own sebum. It’s all about balance – allowing the sebaceous glands beneath the top layer of the epidermis to sense oil regulation.
Our bodies are extremely clever and tend to respond very quickly, so adding a few drops of face oil to your morning and evening rituals will soon lead your glands into a state of equilibrium – a breakout-prone, dry of excessively oily person’s best course of action!
Will a face oil clog my pores?
Ours certainly won’t, and neither will most, high quality plant-based face oils. The reason for this is that the base oils used in face oils are (or should always be) non-comedogenic, meaning that it can stay on the surface of the skin to amp up the protective barrier without clogging up your pores.
Hemp seed oil (the carrier oil we use in our Superboost CBD Face Oil) matches the lipids provided naturally by the human body so closely that it can provide that barrier while penetrating inside skin cells and lubricating the surfaces, allowing easier access for all the good our chosen ingredients have to offer.
Why use a CBD face oil?
As you may have read on our CBD in skincare article, cannabinoids work wonders on improving skin health and tone. We all have CB1 and CB2 receptors in almost every skin cell (a key part of the endocannabinoid system), so as soon as you apply a CBD face oil topically the cannabis plant’s nifty little molecules can get to work reducing inflammation, evening out skin tone, regulating oil production and even stabilizing free radicals with a powerful anti-oxidant effect.
Hemp seed oil is an exceptional skincare ingredient
When we were formulating our CBD Superboost face oil, we deliberately kept it simple. We wanted everyone, even those with the most sensitive skin, to be able to reap the benefits, so we blended a potent 2% dose of CBD isolate with three superhero oils: Squalane, cucumber seed oil and Cannabis sativa (hemp) seed oil.
Despite coming from the same plant, hemp seed oil is a totally different thing to CBD, which comes from the buds and flowers. But it comes with a remarkable range of health and beauty merits which are not found in any other species in the plant kingdom.
Hemp seed oil is deeply moisturising, without being heavy, and is considered to be nature’s most perfectly balanced oil, boasting all 21 known amino acids and a dreamy ratio of Omega 6 (Linoleic) to Omega 3 (alpha-Linolenic) – essential fatty acids which are not produced by the human body. Those who struggle with inflammatory skin conditions or dry skin tend to have a deficiency in these. In terms of anti-aging, both CBD and hemp seed oil pack a punch with those readily available antioxidants (there to battle free-radicals which destroy collagen).
Hemp seed oil is also amazingly high in polyunsaturated fatty acids, vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin E, magnesium, iron and zinc, carotene, phytosterols, phospholipids, sulfur, potassium, phosphorus, calcium. You’ll also find an abundance of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), oleic acid and stearidonic acid, all utilised by a part of the cell membrane that is crucial for proper cell function.
